No trains will run from, to or through Rotterdam Centraal on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November, NS says. ProRail is replacing the train safety system around the station.

This is planned work this coming weekend. It concerns trains, not every form of public transport in Rotterdam.

Which routes are affected

There will be no trains between Rotterdam Centraal and Delft Campus, Gouda or Zwijndrecht. On the high-speed line, there will be no trains between Rotterdam Centraal and Breda, or between Rotterdam Centraal and Schiphol Airport.

Why the station closes to trains

ProRail’s project renews the system that controls signals and switches around Rotterdam Centraal. NS says the upgrade is meant to keep rail traffic safe and reliable in future.

What replaces the trains

NS is arranging replacement buses and metros, which travellers can use with a valid NS ticket. Metro lines A, B and C run between Schiedam Centrum and Rotterdam Alexander, and lines D and E between Rotterdam Centraal and Slinge.

Replacement buses run between Rodenrijs metro station and Zoetermeer Lansingerland, between Rotterdam Alexander and Rotterdam Noord or Gouda, and between Capelsebrug metro station and Gouda, Dordrecht or Zwijndrecht. Others run between Slinge metro station and Zwijndrecht, between Rotterdam Blaak metro station and Rotterdam Zuid, and between Schiedam Centrum and Delft Campus.

There is one exception to the ticket rule: on the metro between Rotterdam Centraal and Rodenrijs, the RET fare applies.

What to do before you travel

NS advises planning your journey in advance in the NS app or journey planner, and allowing extra time because the replacement services are expected to be busy. Check the latest information just before you leave.
