A 19-year-old man from Schiedam was shot dead outside a house on the Weverpad in Schiedam on Saturday afternoon, 7 November. Two other young men were hurt, and three suspects are on the run, the police said on Sunday.
What happened
Around 5 pm, three young men, including the resident, were doing a job at the house when three other men opened fire on them with a firearm, the police said. The shooting happened in the front garden.
Emergency services tried to revive one of the young men, the 19-year-old, but he died at the scene. The second victim who was hit was taken to hospital and is out of danger. The third was lightly injured and ran away after the shooting. He has since been found and arrested. His role in the incident is being investigated, and he is still in custody.
Three suspects on the run
According to the police, the three suspects arrived at the Weverpad shortly before 5 pm via the Warmoezenierstraat and the Wolkaarderstraat. After the shooting they fled via the Gildeweg, towards the Schrijnwerkerstraat or the Barbierpad. One wore a grey hooded jacket and a black cap; the other two wore dark hooded jackets and dark beanies. All three wore black trousers and black trainers.
A large-scale investigation team, led by the Public Prosecution Service, is investigating, and forensic investigators secured evidence at the scene.
The shooting happened outdoors, so several people saw it, the police said, and victim support is available for them. The police ask witnesses who have not yet spoken to them, and anyone with (doorbell) camera footage of the shooting or the suspects, to get in touch.
