On this day On this day in 1703, the Battle of Ekeren unfolded during the War of the Spanish Succession. A Dutch force of 12,000 men found themselves surrounded by a 24,000-strong Bourbon army composed of French, Spanish, and Cologne troops. Despite being outnumbered, the Dutch managed to break out and retreat to safety.
