A rubber boat carrying 38 people was spotted off the coast of Breskens in Zeeland on the morning of Saturday 31 October. The people were brought ashore at Cadzand and later taken to a reception location, the regional safety platform Zeeland Veilig reported.

An earlier version of the report gave an estimate of about 30 people. The later update puts the number at 38.

Marechaussee led the operation

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee led the operation. The Coastguard, the lifeboat service KNRM and the police were also involved.

To coordinate the reception and registration of the people, the emergency services scaled up to GRIP 1, a regional coordination level. At 10:30 they scaled back down to GRIP 0, and Zeeland Veilig closed its reporting on the incident.

The report does not give further details about the people on board, where the boat came from or the location where they are being received. Zeeland Veilig refers further questions to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
