Folding Boxboard Eerbeek plans to restart production in August under new owners, with new contracts offered to 180 of its 220 workers.

Folding Boxboard Eerbeek is preparing to restart production in August after being bought by entrepreneurs Richard Getkate and Siegfried Hohmann. The new owners have offered new contracts to 180 of the 220 people who worked at the Gelderland cartonboard mill before its bankruptcy in June.

A post on the FOLBB Group account confirmed on 25 July that the Eerbeek operation would continue through what it called a successful restart.

Omroep Gelderland reporting later identified Getkate and Hohmann as the buyers. The mill will continue under the Folding Boxboard Eerbeek name.

Production planned for August

The 180 workers included in the relaunch received written offers for new contracts on 25 July. Public statements have not confirmed how many have accepted.

Production is expected to begin with three shifts before increasing to five later in 2026. An exact restart date has not yet been announced.

Getkate and Hohmann said the work carried out with employees, customers, suppliers and investors had preserved jobs, specialist knowledge and industrial capacity in Eerbeek. Their plans place greater emphasis on sustainability and innovation, as well as reliability and regional ties.

Relaunch follows June bankruptcy

A public insolvency record shows that Folding Boxboard Eerbeek B.V. was declared bankrupt on 26 June after its suspension of payments ended the previous day.

The collapse had placed all 220 jobs at risk, as Daily Dutch News reported in June.

The new agreement is a post-bankruptcy relaunch, not a cancellation of the 26 June bankruptcy. Public announcements reviewed by DDN do not identify the legal entity that will operate the mill or disclose the purchase price, financing or detailed ownership structure.

Barrier board targeted for growth

Trade publication EUWID reports that barrier board will be a growth market for the relaunched operation.

FOLBB’s published product information describes barrier board as coated cartonboard designed to resist grease and moisture. These products can be used for food packaging as an alternative to some plastic-based materials.

The company said customers, suppliers and other business partners would receive further information about the restart. As of 31 July, production had not yet resumed and detailed output plans had not been released.
