IFKS skûtsjesilen 2026

The IFKS skûtsjesilen championship runs from Saturday 1 to Saturday 8 August 2026, travelling from Hindeloopen along the IJsselmeer coast and the Frisian lakes to a double-header final at Lemmer. More than sixty traditional skûtsjes compete in four classes, making it the larger of Friesland’s two skûtsje circuits.

The IFKS is the open championship that follows directly after the SKS series, which ends on 31 July. Together the two competitions make early August continuous skûtsje season in Friesland.

Why it matters

Where the SKS fields fourteen boats tied to specific villages and towns, the IFKS is open to a far wider fleet: more than sixty skûtsjes across four classes, according to the provincial tourism organisation. The travelling format means a different harbour town hosts the racing almost every day, each with its own shoreline vantage points.

Each race day has four starts, one per class: the C class at 09:15, the B class at 11:00, the small A class at 12:45 and the A class at 14:30.

Practical information

Racing is watched from public shorelines and dikes. The organiser names viewing spots for each venue and calls the sea dike the place to be at Hindeloopen. Prize ceremonies follow the racing: Hindeloopen holds its ceremony at 20:00 with live music, and the championship ceremony takes place in Lemmer at 20:00 on 8 August. The organiser publishes no spectator ticketing.
